There are two Proverbs that are very appropriate to today’s study: 1) Prov 16:9 “A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps. “ 2) Prov 20:24 “A man’s steps are of the Lord; how then can a man understand his own way?”
Saul’s father sends him on a trip to find some lost donkeys. It seems like such a meaningless, menial task. He won’t find the donkeys, so he fails even in his trivial mission. But as we will see, it is God who is directing his steps. There is nothing trivial about this trip; Saul is on his way to be anointed the king of Israel by the great prophet Samuel.
God is directing our steps too. And those things in our lives that seem to be trivial and trying in life “is working in us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory!” (2 Cor. 4:17).
