1 Corinthians 12:8-11 – A Word to the Wise

There once was a young man who was being interviewed to be a pilot for a steamboat on the Mississippi River. The hiring supervisor was doubtful the man was experienced enough to navigate the dangers of the river, so he asked him if he could tell him where the rocks were that could sink a ship. The young man said, “No sir, I don’t know where the rocks are, but I know where they ain’t!” He got the job. (Illustrations Unlimited, 489)
Have you ever needed guidance for a particular situation and you prayed and studied your Bible and yet you seemed to get no clear answer as to what you were to do? Well, perhaps what you needed was “a word of wisdom” or “a word of knowledge.” As we will
learn in today’s study, words of wisdom and words of knowledge are gifts God sometimes gives us to help navigate through “the rocks” of this fallen world, so we know where “they ain’t.”
May we be encouraged by today’s study to covet these Spiritual gifts from above,
George
