1 Samuel 27 – Slip, Sliding Away

1 Samuel 27 – Slip, Sliding Away

In today’s text, we are going to witness David “slip, sliding away” from his relationship with God. John Charles Ryle once described the state of a backslider by saying, “It is a miserable thing to be a backslider. Of all the unhappy things that can befall a Christian, I suppose backsliding is the worst. A stranded ship, a broken-winged eagle, a garden overrun with weeds, a harp with broken strings, a church in ruins—all these are sad sights. But a backslider is a sadder sight still!”

There are a many a Christian today who are in the process of “slip, sliding away” from the Lord. In today’s lesson on the life of David, we will learn some of the reasons Christians backslide, some of the consequences of doing so, and the remedy for the backslidden state .

May God encourage us all through His Word today to stay the course with Him,
George
