Someone once said that “peace is a bridge and on the two sides of the bridge are truth and righteousness. You must have truth and you must have righteousness if you are going to have peace.”
Jesus will tell his disciples in today’s text that, “My peace I leave with you.” He is about to die. Things are going to get rough for His disciples, but He wants them to know that they will not be left in turmoil, but in peace; peace that passeth understanding.” Why? Because they were receiving the truth about whom He is and about what He was about to do for them. And because they loved Him, they would keep His commandments and live righteously before God. And so it was because they had truth and righteousness, they would be able to walk across the bridge of peace as the turbulent waters raged below them. It’s no different for us today, if we want peace, then we have to receive the truth of God and by His Spirit live righteously before Him.
May God teach us these great truths today as we study His word,
