In today’s study in 2 Samuel, the Lord will strike down the child that David and Bathsheba conceived in their adulterous affair. Yet God who is rich in mercy will give them another child who will be given the name “Solomon.” The name “Solomon” comes from the Hebrew word “shalom” which means peace. But God will give Solomon the middle name Jedidiah which means “Beloved of the Lord” or “Loved by Jehovah.” God no doubt wants Bathsheba and David to know that they and their son are greatly loved by Jehovah.
Isn’t it great to know that no matter how great our sin is, those of us who are born again are “Jedidiah,” the beloved of Jehovah. We have eternal “shalom” with God through Jesus Christ our Lord!
