2 Samuel 11 – Sliding Down the Slippery Slope of Sin

On August 9, 1974, facing certain impeachment both by the Senate and the House of Representatives, Richard Nixon resigned his presidency. What got him into so much trouble wasn’t the break-in of the Democratic headquarters at Watergate by some of his associates. No, it was his attempted cover-up of the crime that brought his presidency down. In today’s lesson, David will commit adultery with Bathsheba. But David’s sin doesn’t end with adultery. In the process of covering up his affair, he slides further down the slippery slope of sin, to a point where he is even willing to murder a friend in order to keep his sin from being exposed.

The slippery slide into terrible sin is hard to stop. But as we will be reminded today, as Christians, we all have power through Christ to repent at any point, and break our fall

into sin.
