2 Corinthians 1:1-11 – Delivery from Deep Despair

When Corrie Ten Boom was a young girl she told her father that she feared that if persecution came to her homeland she would never be strong enough to stand for Jesus Christ. Her father told her, “Corrie, tell me, when you make a train trip to Amsterdam, when do I give you the ticket? Three weeks before you leave?” She replied, “No, daddy, you give me the ticket just before we get on the train.”  “That’s right,” her father said, “and so it is with God’s strength. Our Father in Heaven knows when you will need the strength to stand for Him, and He will supply you all you need—just in time!”

Paul will tell us in today’s text that in all our tribulations, we will be comforted by the God of all comfort. When does that comfort come? As we need it—just in time!”

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,” (2 Corinthians 1:3)
