1 Corinthians 16 – Breaking Curses (includes communion service)

In today’s text, Paul makes what seems to be a very harsh statement when he says, “If anyone does not love the Lord Jesus Christ, let him be accursed.” But in that statement, he wasn’t cursing the lost, he was just simply giving them a prophetic warning of their state without Jesus Christ. We know enough about Paul to know that he wasn’t in the business of cursing, on the contrary, he was all about breaking curses.
So just how do you break a curse? If you look on the internet, you can find all sorts of advice on how to break curses. You can find specific prayers by pagans, as well as Christians, that supposedly, if spoken word by word, will break a curse. There are chants prescribed by certain witches that promise to remove curses. You can even buy magic charms that come with the claim that
they will break a curse. But there is only one way to break a curse, and that is the prescription Paul gives us in the last part of 1 Corinthians.
We’ll get that prescription today and hopefully learn to apply it to our witness to this lost and dying world,
George
