1 Corinthians 6:1-11 – We Will Judge Angels

1 Corinthians 6:1-11 – We Will Judge Angels

“Like the eagle that sat down on the frozen ground to feed upon its prey, and when it would have arisen, found its great wings so frozen to the ice that it could never rise again, but perished beside its costly pleasure, so are Christian men and women who are trifling with forbidden things until they have neither heart nor strength rise to their heavenly calling.” (James S. Hewett, Illustrations Unlimited, 447).
Hewett’s illustration aptly applies to those in the Corinthian church. They were so attached to the things of the world, that they had pretty much forsaken their heavenly calling. As we will see today, things had gotten so bad there that brothers and sisters in Christ were even suing one another. In today’s text, Paul will rebuke them for their error and then he will remind them of just who they are in Christ.
May we be encouraged from today’s lesson to live up to the high calling we have in Jesus Christ,
George
