1 Corinthians 11:17-32 – An Attitude of Gratitude

1 Corinthians 11:17-32 – An Attitude of Gratitude

There is something very offensive to us about seeing someone on the news burning an American flag. But why? It’s only a piece of cloth. The reason it bothers us so much is because that cloth, Old Glory, represents the United States of America.
Paul will warn us today, that the Lord is offended when we take lightly the Lord’s Supper. But why? After all, we are just drinking grape juice and eating a cracker. Yes, but that grape juice and that cracker represent the shed blood and broken body of the Lord. And so our approach to the Lord’s Supper says a lot about our attitude towards Christ and the cross. When we disdain or flippantly observe communion, we are in effect trampling on the blood of Christ. Believe me, that is much worse than burning an American flag. When we take the Lord’s Supper seriously with joy, we are expressing our love for the Lord and an attitude of gratitude.
May we be encouraged by God’s Word today,
George
