Ruth 2:4-23 – Love at First Sight

Ruth 2:4-23 – Love at First Sight

One of my favorites love songs of all time is Roberta Flack’s 1972 hit “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” The first couplet goes like this:
The first time ever I saw your face
I thought the sun rose in your eyes
In those two lines, Flack was singing about love at first sight: the kind of love Boaz experienced the first time he laid his eyes on Ruth. The moment he saw her he was hooked. He was ready to give all he had to make her his own.

As we will learn in today’s lesson, Boaz serves as a type of Jesus Christ, and the love affair between Boaz and Ruth as a type of the love affair between Christ and the Church. The first time Jesus ever saw your face, He too was hooked and ready to give all he had to make you His own, even if that meant dying for you on a cross! Truly that is amazing love,

George
