Back in the 1992 presidential election campaign, James Carville, Bill Clinton’s chief campaign strategist, coined the slogan “It’s the economy, stupid.” Maybe an effective variation of that slogan would work well for candidates in today’s political environment–one like “it’s the environment, stupid.” Many politicians tell us that if we just change the environment in which people live, then everyone will do what is right, and we will live in peace and harmony with one another. To them that means we need to redistribute the wealth; we need to give everyone a free secular education; we need to stop climate change; and we need to let everyone live the lifestyle they so choose. But as we will learn in today’s lesson, “It’s not the environment, stupid.” It is the sin nature of men and women that causes most of our problems. In Revelation 20, we will see that even in a perfect environment – one that lasts 1000 years – men, at the end of that millennium, will show their true nature as they join Satan in a rebellion against their Creator and King.
