John, in today’s passage, will say that many believed in Jesus as Lord, but that they would not confess their belief in public, because they valued the praise of men more than the praise of God. Isn’t that a sad indictment of these Jews?
Donald Grey Barnhouse, while visiting China, led a young Chinese man to Christ. The next day the young man printed cards and sent them out to hundreds of his friends and acquaintances. The message on the cards was as follows: “I, Ah Wong, having become a Christian, wishes to announce to his friends and acquaintances that I will no longer be seen in my old haunts or living my old way of life.” Wong by his announcement made a clear confession of Jesus as His Lord. As Christians we constantly are faced with the opportunity to confess Jesus as our Lord.
When those opportunities come, we can choose to deny him as the Pharisees did, or like Ah Wong, to boldly declare Him to be our God and Savior. Knowing who He is and what He’s done for us, how could we ever deny Him?
May God bless our study in John today,
