Hebrews 6:9-20 – The Anchor of the Soul

Hebrews 6:9-20 – The Anchor of the Soul

In 2011, a California man devised a method of hunting ducks whereby he anchored a large barrel just off the coastline and hid in it until the ducks flew by. One evening, he was so busy shooting ducks as they flew ashore that he didn’t notice that his anchor had broke. Before he realized what had happened the barrel he was in had floated out to sea. About that time a dense fog rolled in with the darkness and the situation seemed pretty hopeless. But he kept firing his shotgun, and sure enough, someone in a nearby boat heard the blasts and he was rescued.

A lot of people in this world are living adrift in the world, having a broken anchor of the soul. Therefore, they are tossed to and fro by every strange doctrine and a sure disaster awaits them. But as we will learn in our study in Hebrews today, those of us who are in Christ, have a sure anchor of the soul and that anchor is our real hope in Jesus Christ.
