John Payton tells of the time when he and his wife were missionaries on the New Hebrides Islands, and how one night they were attacked by hostile natives. Payton and his wife prayed for God‘s help and suddenly their attackers left. Years later, when the chief of these hostile natives was converted to Christ, Payton asked him why they had aborted their attack that night. He said that he was afraid to charge because he had seen hundreds of giant men in shining garments with drawn swords circling the mission. No doubt he had seen angels.
In today’s text we will examine the subject of angels and learn how Christ is in every way superior to them. It’s great to have angels on our side, but if I have my choice to be touched by an angel or touched by Christ, I’ll take Christ’s touch every time!
