Hebrews 10:26-39 – Warning Label

There is a farmer in Arkansas who had the following warning posted on the fences that surround his farm: “Please to not trample on the poison ivy or feed the bull!” The farmer said the signs didn’t work and he still has trespassers, because most people read his bluff.

There are so many warnings that we see in our society that are bluffs or exaggerations that we tend to ignore them. Highway warnings like “a $1500 fine for littering” or “double speeding fines when workers are present” are often ignored because they are rarely enforced.

The Bible has several very stern warnings about ignoring the salvation that is offered to us in Jesus Christ. In Hebrews there are five such warnings, one of which we will be looking at today. The author will warn of the certain damnation that awaits those who willfully reject Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins. The sad thing is that most of the people in this world take warnings like this as an exaggeration or a bluff, and don’t really believe that God will send anyone to hell, but the worst of His enemies. What they fail to realize is that it is impossible for God to lie and that He promises to send to hell all those who reject His Son!
