I once heard the story about a couple who took their children, ages 11 and 7, to Carlsbad Caverns. While they were in the deepest part of the cave, the guide cut off the lights and the family found itself in deep darkness. The little girl started crying in horror, but her older brother consoled her saying, “Don’t cry. Somebody here knows how to turn on the lights!”
In today’s lesson in Genesis 15, a horror and great darkness is going to fall upon Abraham. But the good news for Abraham and for us is that Somebody knows how to turn on the lights. And light will come to him in the form of a burning torch. We’ll learn the meaning behind that torch for Abraham and for us as we study this very important event in his life.
