J Vernon McGee had a great illustration for demonstrating the wrong use of the law. He said, “When you get dirt on your face and see it in the mirror you don’t try to get the dirt off by rubbing your face against the mirror. If you did your loved ones would call the psychiatrist.”
The law is like a mirror. It just shows us the dirt, but it can’t remove the dirt. But as Paul will teach us today, the law does serve its purpose. Because, ultimately, it’s the law that drives us to Christ, to the One whose blood cleanses us from all unrighteousness!
