In ancient battle, the thickest armor was that used to protect the heart, because a sword wound to the heart meant instant death for the combatant. Paul tells us in Ephesians 6:17, that our greatest weapon as spiritual warriors is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God.” Why is that? Because the sword of the Spirit is able to penetrate the thickest of armor and cut to the heart. How is it able to do that? The author of Hebrews tells us that “the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
Today we will see Peter wielding the Word of God by the power of the Spirit of God. And he won’t fail as he did when he wielded the sword against Malchus in the Garden of Gethsemane. This time he will have great victory as he cuts to the heart of his listeners and over 3000 Jews are saved.
