2 Samuel 6:1-10 – Trifling with the Things of God

2 Samuel 6:1-10 – Trifling with the Things of God

Someone once wrote, “Reverence is one of the signs of strength; irreverence one of the surest indications of weakness. No man will rise high who jeers at sacred things. The fine loyalties of life must be reverenced or they will be foresworn in the day of trial.” For the Christian “the fine loyalties of life” are all the things of God, and I am afraid that much of the church today is trifling with sacred things.

In today’s text, we will observe how God punished the Israelites for not taking Him seriously. They made light of the process of moving the ark from Kirjath-Jearm and it cost Uzzah his life, as God struck him dead on the spot for touching the ark. Uzzah’s death serves as a warning to us all that it is a serious offense to trifle with the things of God.
