In Today’s text, we will be exploring the answer to the age-old question, “Does God punish his own people?” Some theologians would say He does, while others would argue that, although He will discipline His children, all the punishment for all their sins was taken care of at the cross.
I think the life of David provides us a vivid picture of how God deals with His sinful children through His Providence over the circumstances of life. As our title today suggests, life for David amounted to “one darn thing after another.” Some of the “darn” things that happened to David were the product of chance, some were the disciplinary actions of God, and some were God’s downright punishment for David’s sin. Hopefully, we can learn a little bit today about discerning why certain “darn things” are happening to us, and if possible, what we can do about it!!
