Max O’Rell divided people into two groups-those who complain that roses have thorns and those that rejoice that thorns have roses. David belonged to the second group. After all the troubles he had been through, he still saw his life as a wonderful gift from God.
In today’s text, David was nearing the end of his life and so he took some time for reflection to ponder the blessings of God’s provision and protection. In the process, he drew near to the Lord and broke out into praise that he penned for us all to read in 2 Samuel 22.
What about you? Are you bitter about the thorns of life? If so, set aside some hours, and maybe even days, for a serious time of reflection, and you will soon see roses in the midst of those thorns as you draw nearer to the Lord.
