2 Samuel 18 – Building a Monument to Self

2 Samuel 18 – Building a Monument to Self

120 year-old Jean Calmert was once asked to describe her vision for the future and she replied, “Very brief!” Relative to eternity, the future for all of us could be described as “very brief.”

In today’s lesson, we are going to be reminded that what we do with the brief time we have left on this earth will determine the legacy we leave behind. Absalom spent his life building a monument to himself and in the end he ended up buried under a pile of rocks. What a contrast to his father, who left us with the Psalms, and was given the epitaph by the Lord Himself, “A man after My Own heart.” May we all be encouraged from today’s study to make our lives a monument unto the Lord, and not to self!
