2 Peter 2:1-9 – Plastic Teachers and Plastic Christians

Back in the 1980’s, Senator Claude Pepper of Florida led a congressional inquiry into doctors with false credentials. His committee estimated that at that time there were over 10,000 doctors in the United States with fraudulent degrees. One of the parties they brought before the committee was Pedro Demesones who had served a three year prison sentence for expediting false medical transcripts and degrees for fake doctors. He testified that he had sold these credentials to a hundred clients at the price of $15,000 each. He used about half of his $1.5 million take to bribe registrar workers at the various medical schools where he got the degrees. So you never know. The doctor you are seeing might not have ever even gone to school.

Peter might very well have called such a doctor “a plastic doctor.” For “plastic” is the adjective he used in today’s text to describe false doctrine that fake teachers teach. And in today’s text, he will begin to show us just how we spot these “plastic teachers.”
