A few years back, a Christian magazine did a study and discovered that over 80% of those who enter into full-time ministry quit within five years. How could that be so? One of the main reasons so many don’t last in the ministry is that they have faulty motives.
In today’s text, Paul gives us the only motive that will cause us to carry on effectively in the ministry. In 2 Corinthians 5:14-15, he says, “The love of Christ compels us. . . to live not for ourselves, but for Him who died for all.” If our motives are selfish, you can be sure that when persecution and trials come our way, we’ll flee the ministry and go find something more pleasant to do. But if we truly love Him, we will want to serve Him where He places us for as long as He places us there.
May the love of Christ compel us all to serve Him obediently,
George
