Over in Isaiah 55:8-9, the Lord says “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.” NKJV
The problem is, for the most part, humans don’t recognize God’s ways as higher than ours. On the contrary, we subjugate his ways to our ways by attempting to put Him into a box—a box of our self-conceived notions for what we want Him to be.
In today’s text in the times of First Samuel, the leaders of Israel had relegated God to a box of their own liking, but they are about to find out the hard way that God’s actions are based on His will and character, not theirs. May we never be guilty of trying to put God in a box of our on liking, but instead learn to worship Him as He is, revealed to us in His word!
