In last week’s study we were introduced to the biblical character named Nabal. He was a man who thought he was in total charge of his life. He was a rich man. He owned 3,000 sheep and 1,000 goats. He had a beautiful young wife with lots of servants. The harvest had gone so well that he threw a party fit for a king. But he wasn’t nearly as in control of his life as he thought he was. The next day he had a heart attack and ten days later God struck him dead!
There are a lot of Nabals in the world today: fools, partying as if there is no tomorrow, thinking they are in total control of their lives. But as we will learn today, there are very few things in life that we actually do control. If we’re not in charge, then who is? Our Creator, God Almighty, who the Bible says, “rules the affairs of men and worketh all things after the counsel of His own will.” Life gets a lot easier and so much more meaningful when we submit to the one who’s truly in charge of everything and we quit trying to be in charge ourselves.
