1 Samuel 2:11-36 – Turn Out the Lights, the Party’s Over

1 Samuel 2:11-36 – Turn Out the Lights, the Party’s Over

Jesus said in Luke 11:34, “The lamp of the body is the eye. If your eye is good, the whole body is full of light. But if your eye is bad, your body will be full of darkness.” So if our focus is on Christ our whole soul will be filled with light. But if our focus is on this world, our whole soul will be filled with darkness. The danger is, as we will learn in our lesson today in 1 Samuel, you can be in the very midst of the Light and still be focused on the darkness.

Hophni and Phinehas who were in charge of the very dwelling place of God were living as close to the Light as one could possibly get. Yet, even though they were surrounded by light, they chose to focus on darkness, and so their souls were full of darkness and they did great evil in the sight of the Lord. May God help us all to be aware of the light around us and to gravitate to it and move away from the darkness!
