I once heard a preacher say, “Sometimes the Lord calms the storm. Sometimes he lets the storm rage and calms His child.” In today’s text, God actually is the One who sends a storm into the camp of the Israelites so that they will learn to fear Him. But His ultimate purpose is to calm the nation by getting them to trust in Him instead of men. After the storm, God promises them that if they will trust in Him and serve Him only, they will live a good and peaceful life.
God sends storms into our lives at times so that we will learn to trust in Him. But through every storm, a child of God can be sure that the turbulence comes with the Lord’s good purposes, and that through the storm we will never be forsaken!
