Jay Carney is the current press secretary for President Obama. His role is to serve as the president’s ambassador to the media. Just listening to him talk, one would think that he is in perfect agreement with the president on every issue. But his job is not to express his own opinions, but to speak on behalf of our nation’s leader. To do that, he has to know the mind of the president on every important issue of state. Then he must articulate Obama’s opinion, not his own, in a manner that indicates he agrees with the president. Woe is he, if he does otherwise.
We are ambassadors for Jesus Christ. Therefore, we are to study the Bible so that we can share the Good News based upon the mind of Christ, not our own opinions. As Paul will infer in today’s text, woe are we if we do otherwise!
