Genesis 22:20-24, 23:1-19 – A Death Swallowed Up In Victory

Thomas A Kempis in his work Imitation of Christ had this to say about the believer’s preparation for death, “Thou oughtest to order thyself in all thy thoughts and actions as if today thou wert about to die. Labor now to live so that at the hour of death thou mayest rather rejoice than fear.”

In today’s text, Sarah dies and Abraham prepares for her burial. Abraham mourns for his wife, but his actions demonstrate that his mourning is not in the context of fear and defeat. Instead by faith in the Lord and His promises, her “death is swallowed up in victory!” (1 Cor. 15:54)
