In Matthew 18:12, Jesus asked the question, “What do you think? If a man has 100 sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the 99 and go to the mountains to seek the one that is straying? And if he should find it assuredly I say to you, ‘he rejoices more over that sheep than the 99 that did not go astray!’” In this parable, Jesus was not only talking about the joy of seeing one lost sinner saved, He was also giving a picture of the first step in every believer’s salvation, and that is, that the Lord seeks him (her) out. We will get and even more detailed picture of that step in the salvation process today as we begin our study of the life of Abraham, and we see how the Lord sought him and marked him out for salvation while he was still lost in a world of idolatry.
