2 Samuel 23:1-7 – David’s Last Song

2 Samuel 23:1-7 – David’s Last Song

As we contemplate our plans for the coming year, we would be wise to pay heed to the words of James in James 4:13-14:

“Come now, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit’; whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.”

We can hope for all sorts of good things in the New Year, but we really don’t know what will happen tomorrow. The only hope that we can be sure of is the hope that David wrote about in his Last Song in 2 Samuel 23 – the hope of the sovereign rule of the Lord in the affairs of His people. He said, “The Lord has made an everlasting covenant with me and this is all my salvation and all my desire!” Everyone who has made Jesus all their salvation and all their desire can look forward to 2015 being a very good year!
