In chapter seven of Hebrews, the author is going to show us that Jesus is our great High Priest. He is much more than just the fulfillment of the Levitical Priesthood. He is a high priest forever according to the order of Melchezedek.
“So what?” someone might ask. Let me let Samuel RIdout answer that question for you: “Once let Christ be apprehended, once let the beauty of His character as our Priest and the blessedness of the place into which He had introduced us be laid hold of by the soul, and the things of earth which would hold us fast, a carnal religion and all else, will lose their hold, even as the leaves drop off the trees in autumn.” What Ridot is saying here is that once we grasp the role of Jesus Christ as our great High Priest, nothing will be more important to us as we live in the knowledge that we have a personal advocate sitting on the very throne of God!!
