David in Psalms 139 makes an astonishing claim about the Lord’s attention to His own by saying: “How precious are your thoughts towards me, O God! If I should count them, they would be more in number than the sand!” And knowing that God’s thoughts cover the past, present, and future, I can be assured that every single major event in my life is already marked on His eternal calender in heaven.
In today’s text, Abraham and Sarah will finally have the promised child Isaac at the very time set by the Lord in eternity past. And we will learn from their experience that the promises of God are fulfilled on His time table and not ours. We’ll also find out why that is such an important lesson for every believer to grasp as we study the birth of Isaac in Genesis 21.
