I’m sure most of you have heard the question popularized by Boston Red Sox pitcher Pedro Martinez back in the 90’s: “Who’s your daddy?” It’s a way of bragging about being better than someone else you exercise dominance over.
John all but asks us the same question in our text today and then gives us two possible answers: The Lord or the devil. Everyone has “either or” as their daddy. All of us I’m sure when asked this question will reply that the Lord is our daddy. He’s the one who exercises dominance over us. But just in case we are deceiving ourselves, John will continue to give us some identifying criteria of those who truly have the Lord as their Father.
