In today’s lesson, David is going to be chased out of Jerusalem by Absalom his son. As he crosses over the Brook Kidron, a refugee from Gath, Ittai, offers to join him. David tells Ittai that he might want to think twice about passing over with him, since things could get really tough in the near future as he flees Absalom. But Ittai is determined to be with David, and so David gives him the word, “Go, and cross over!”
Jesus warns His disciples about the cost of following Him. He’s told us that things are not necessarily going to be easy for those who follow Him. He said, “Foxes have holes and the birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.” Still, He wants us join Him, and so He says to us all, “Go, and cross over with Me!”
